And a majority of apprentices are now employed by Group Training Schemes to undertake their apprenticeship to become future electricians.
Group Training Schemes
Group Training Companies employ apprentices and “host” them out to companies to obtain the on-the-job skills of the trade. They act as the pivotal point between the contractor and the apprentice, creating a career pathway for new entrants to the industry whilst relieving the contractor of the employment, paperwork and fluctuations in work load issues.
Group Training companies ensure there that apprentices and/or trainees available to employers comes “site ready” with the correct OH&S perquisites, uniform and basic safety equipment.
Using the services of a Group Training company enables businesses to better manage the human resource requirements to cope with the peaks and troughs of the work. The apprentice or trainee is assured of continuous work and at the successful conclusion of the course, a nationally recognised qualification as an electrician.
NECA Group Training
NECA Group Training is a registered group training company established by the National Electrical Contractors Association for the specific task of training apprentices into the trade of electrical mechanic.
Throughout Australia, NECA's group training companies employ approximately 2,000 electrotechnology apprentices. NECA Group Training operates through the normal apprenticeship system by selecting and employing apprentices who are then made available to suitable contractors for on-the-job experience. This means that participating electrical contractors can benefit from the assistance of an apprentice without having to make the long term commitment that the employment of an apprentice requires. Known as Host Trainers, these electrical contractors provide apprentices with experience and instruction while they are on-the-job and, at the same time, receive the assistance normally expected from an additional employee and NECA Group Training will take care of all of the paperwork. Because NECA Group Training is a non-profit organisation, chargeout rates are very competitive and no charge is made for additional items such as TAFE attendance, superannuation, holidays and sick leave or for rostered days off. Additional payments which are site specific are charge at cost and attract a small surcharge to cover statutory costs.
