NECA NSW 2011 Excellence Award Winners
The NECA NSW Excellence Awards were announced on Friday 23 September at a luncheon held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.
NECA congratulates all the winners and certificate of commendation recipients. The winners will now go into the NECA National Awards which will be announced in Melbourne on 24 November.

Domestic Residence
Winner: Automated Innovation
Project: Bar Beach Residence
Automated Innovation provided solutions for their client's every need from the ground up. This included the access to TV, Pay TV, DVD and multi-room music for entertaining. The house has current innovative features including lighting, air conditioning, floor heating control and a high-end security system.

Project: J & S Brown Electrical Pty Ltd
J & S Brown Electrical started as a small family operation and has grown into a business with six employees, a shop front and workshop. The company has built an enviable reputation for quality, service and workmanship in the Manning and Great Lakes area, focussing in the industrial field.
Environment and Energy Efficiency
Winner: RIC Electrics
Project: Wagga TAFE BMS
RIC Electrical was engaged for the design, installation and commissioning of a Building Management System for the Riverina Institute of TAFE. RIC Electrics in house team designed and developed a system to provide an excellent energy monitoring program. The system has also been extended for use as a teaching tool in the electrical trades course.
Industrial Project - Small
Winner: Bass Electrical Engineering
Project: White Bay 6, Bailey’s Marine Fuels
Bass Electrical Engineering supplied and installed all electrical cabling, switchboards, security CCTV and communications works for Stage 1 of the White Bay 6, Bailey’s Marine fuel installation. This was a challenging project as White Bay is a working port and is also adjacent to residential units, causing severe restrictions on access, working hours and noise.
Industrial - Large Project
Winner: Downer Australia
Project: Reliance Rail Maintenance Facility
The NSW Government and RailCorp entered into a public private partnership contract with Downer Australia’s “Reliance Rail” consortium to design, build and maintain a new maintenance facility for Sydney’s new passenger rail fleet. The facility features DC overhead wiring, traction return power, communication and signalling networks, rail safety systems, electrolysis and corrosion protection, retractable-arm conductor rail system and significant civil works.

Bass Electrical Engineering/Transelect - 33kV Springhill to Wongawilli Transmission Feeder Project
Voice/Data – Small Project
Winner: Stowe Australia Pty Ltd
Project: Vigilare Air 5333 – Site Cabling Works
Stowe Australia supplied and installed the new communications and power infrastructure to support Vigilare, a ground based air defence, commence, control and communications system supporting RAAF bases across the country. The project consolidated a number of defence surveillance systems onto a real time platform, setting a new standard for future installations.
Commercial – Small Project
Winner: D & M Electrical and Communications
Project: Westside Hotel
Westside Hotel Dubbo contracted D & M Electrical and Communications for the supply and installation of all electrical works for their refurbishment. This included main switchboard, distribution boards, all lighting, power, emergency systems, data and C-Bus controls. Technical expertise was shown in the Keno installation, AV switching between different function and bar areas and use of creative lighting effects.
Commercial – Medium Project
Winner: Heyday Group
Project: Schneider Electric Sydney Co - location
Heyday Groups ACC Technologies division provided the electrical services fit-out for Schneider Electric’s relocation for a high quality 7,900 sqm fit-out over 5 floors. The project involved the installation of standby generator services, new sub-mains, lighting, access controls, CCTV and MATV systems, emergency system and all data and communications systems.
Commercial – Large Project
Winner: Stowe Australia Pty Ltd
Project: Star City Infrastructure Upgrade
As the head contractor, Stowe Australia was responsible for building works, mechanical services, health and safety, 3 new standby generators, an energy monitoring system, a new cooling tower and an updated of the seawater cooling system. Stowe Australia faced many challenges on this project To ensure minimal disruption to the Casino’s 24/7 operations, Stowe developed a business continuity plan and detailed shutdown procedure.

Judges Choice Award
Winner: Nilsen (NSW) Pty Ltd
Project: Orange Hospital
Orange Hospital will provide state of the art health facilities as part of the key clinical networks and centre of excellence in rural health care in NSW. Nilsen NSW was engaged for a comprehensive contract covering HV reticulation, substations, emergency back-up power systems, general light and power, communications and security, critical medical systems, nurse call and examination lighting.
