NECASafe Online - New Product Launch
NECASafe Online is a web based full safety management system you use to manage your safety information. We have developed this system to meet the needs and responsibilities of NECA members to assist them to meet the requirements of the relevant Australian Standards for OHS, Environmental and Quality Management Systems (AS/NZS 4801, AS/NZS ISO 14001 and AS/NZS ISO 9001) and the release of new harmonised WHS legislation and codes of practice.
Here is a demonstration video.
Features
As part of the standard NECASafe Online package you can log and investigate incidents and manage hazards and actions. It will also manage your safety documentation. NECA documents, previously purchased as a separate product, are now part of NECASafe Online and will be automatically updated as changes are made by NECA. Importantly, the new online system provides modules that enable contractors to automatically receive immediate updates from NECA specialists in a range of areas including OHS, industrial and employee relations, legal, technical and a range of other areas and these will then also be available to their nominated employees connected with the system either in-house or at work sites.

NECASafe OHS Management System
In a diverse and dynamic industry such as the electrical contracting industry, the task of Occupational Health and Safety Management System implementation can have an overwhelming impact on business. NECA NSW has recognised this issue and has risen to the task of compiling a management system applicable to the electrical industry for implementation of its members.
All employers, whether in large, medium or small business enterprises, and self-employed persons, are required to demonstrate a commitment to the health, safety and welfare of all employees and other persons who operate in areas under their control. For some minor works or contracts, sub-contracts and single jobs, a Safe Work Method Statement may be sufficient but the degree of application of these procedures needs to be commensurate with the nature of the employer's enterprise, the organisational structure, type of operations and levels of risks with the work.
The base resource is the NECA OH&S Manual that has been available since November 1998. This is an excellent and extensive publication, recently updated, and provides all the OH&S management procedures for large electrical contractors. Full implementation of this manual meets the requirements for Accreditation by the NSW Government Construction Policy Steering Committee. It comes in both hard copy and on two disks. While it is applicable to smaller businesses, it is a rather daunting task to implement where there are no systems in place especially by people who may not really know what they are doing. Hence NECASafe has been developed to ease this pain.
The second resource is the NECASafe Systems Manual that provides the "hands-on" resources that are essential for OH&S management systems. These include several policies, descriptions of responsibilities, best practice criteria and numerous record-keeping forms and registers. This manual also comes on a disk and all documents in both manuals need to be edited into the particular organisation's name, wording altered if necessary to align with the organisation's needs and key functions, signed off by the managing director or equivalent and printed on letterhead.
There are also a number of draft Safe Work Method Statements on the NECASafe Manual disk to be edited into organisation specific formats. The intention is that only the job and site details should need to be changed once all stakeholders agree with the format and details provided.
The NECASafe workshop is held over two days, normally one to two weeks apart. The first day is to provide the building blocks and the second day is about putting those blocks together in the shape of your organisation - implementation. The workshop is meant for people at general manager level - those who have the responsibilities and authority for OH&S in their organisation. Implementation actions are critical - having a system is the starting point, but documented proof of what has been done is essential.
